Top 10 Fictional High Schools

Posted on 21 February 2010 by

Attention class! In honor of our reader Ben, a high school teacher who has included TheDailyContributor.com in the suggested blog list for his blogging class, we decided to do a post on the best fictional high schools. Thanks Ben!

If you were normal, high school was generally a miserable place. Cafeteria food, pep rallys, math class… just typing those words gives me chills. The worst part is, high school always looked so much more fun on TV and in the movies. Here is a list of the high schools we probably would have rather attended. Except, of course, for Ben’s students because they obviously have a cool teacher.

10. Sweet Valley High

Oh those crazy Wakefield twins and their drama! SVH may sound unfamiliar to most high schoolers these days but not for long. Diablo Cody of Juno and Jennifer’s Body fame has signed on to bring Sweet Valley High to the big screen.

9. Lawndale High School

“You’re standing on my neck,” sings the theme song of the MTV cartoon, Daria, and anyone who has ever had to copy down hundreds of verb tenses for their foreign language homework can probably identify with this sentiment. All in all, Lawndale seemed like a pretty funny place to go to school – at least the neurotic teachers seemed entertaining.

8. John Adams High School

If only every high school had a principal as awesome as Mr. Feeny well… then we’d all be in detention all the time. But we’d learn valuable life lessons too!

7. The Harbor School

Welcome to the OC, bitch! When Ryan Atwood stepped onto The Harbor School’s campus he was blown away – along with everyone watching. It is just unfair how gorgeous The Harbor School’s campus is compared to the dingy gray hallways of most of America’s learning institutions.

6. San Dimas High School

History class is another unfortunate aspect to high school. But if all history presentations could be as fun as Bill and Ted’s, it probably wouldn’t be so bad. Oh yeah, and San Dimas High School Football Rules!

5. Bel-Air Academy

In addition to class presentation, school uniforms are another horrible side effect of high school. Bel Air Academy may have had stuffy uniforms, but if you were as cool as Will, you could make the most of it.

4. West Beverly Hill High School/Sunnydale High School

90210 is the zip code for the school district everyone wanted to live in… except when it was on the Hellmouth. Torrance High School in California provided the location shots for two of the most famous shows about high schools that have ever aired: Beverly Hills 90210 and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

3. Ridgemont High School

Teachers can blame this movie for generations of students who tried to have pizza delivered to their classroom. If only this were possible!

2. Shermer High School

For all intents and purposes, Shermer High School might as well have been called John Hughes High. The fictional high school used in The Breakfast Club (which may be the greatest high school movie of all time), Weird Science and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Shermer High holds a special place in the heart of any 80s baby.

1. Bayside High School

Bayside High is hands-down the best fictional high school there is and it was way ahead of its time: teachers rarely stopped Zack Morris from answering his cell phone in class and it was far more noticeable than yours! And who wouldn’t get a kick out of having Mr. Balding, er, Belding for their principal? Go Tigers!
