When it’s all said and done, the ‘It Just Doesn’t Matter’ speech preformed by Bill Murray in the movie Meatballs will not be remembered as one of the greatest movie speeches of all times. I’ve scoured countless lists put together by bloggers and I’ve never seen the ‘It Just Doesn’t Matter’ speech from Meatballs crack a top 50 position. Maybe the blogging community doesn’t recognize this as a great movie speech or maybe the blogging community has simply never seen this speech.
I also have a hunch that you, our reader, has never seen the ‘It Just Doesn’t Matter’ speech from Meatballs. Have you? Probably not, but you might have if you ever had that odd-ball friend who was obsessed with watching movies that nobody else watched. That kid definitely would have seen Meatballs a few times over. Now, you movie buffs out there have most likely already snubbed Meatballs and discredited the speech at hand.
Do you even know what Meatballs is about: “Meatballs is a 1979 Canadian comedy film. It is noted for the first film appearance of Bill Murray in a starring role and for launching director Ivan Reitman into a distinguished career of financially successful comedies including Stripes and Ghostbusters,” says wikipedia. “The film follows the antics and foibles of head counselor Tripper Harrison (Bill Murray) and the counselors-in-training (CITs) at Camp North Star, a cut-rate summer camp located in the ‘North Woods.’ The characters range from reasonably sane to zany and screwball.”
Now, if you’ve gotten this far in the post the only thing you could possibly be thinking right now is, “Wow, how have I not seen this movie?” You are correct sir. Meatballs is a cult-classic and features a fantastic speech delivered by Mill Murray’s character that should receive much more recognition than it does now - which is no recognition at all:
