NBA Jam is the latest entry to our list of the Best SNES Games Ever. When Midway’s NBA Jam first came out in 1993 it took sports video games by storm. It was unlike any other basketball game because it moved away from the traditional dribble up and dribble down and implemented a unique arcade style game play that pretty much blew everyone’s mind the first time they played.
“The release of NBA Jam gave rise to a new genre of sports games which were based around action-packed game play,” says Wikipedia. Players could preform insane, never-seen-before-in-video-game dunks that made the entire room hoot and holler.
Wikipedia adds, “A key feature of NBA Jam was the exaggerated nature of the play - players jumped many times above their own height, making slam dunks that defied both human capabilities and the laws of physics. There were no fouls, free throws, or violations except goal tending. This meant the player was able to freely shove his opponent out of the way. Additionally, the game had an “on fire” feature, where if one player made three baskets in a row, he would become “on fire” and have unlimited turbo, no goal tending, and increased shooting ability, until the other team scored (or the player had scored four consecutive points while “on fire”).”
NBA Jam is a game you can pick up and play at any time and makes for a great novelty at your next party. NBA Jam is an absolute lock in our list of Best SNES Games Ever. You can swing by our offices the next time you’re in San Diego for a little NBA Jam if you’d like…
