The Daily Contributor took some time to look at the four styles in the Runway line, because, you know, there’s nothing that makes more sense than reviewing swimwear in January. Continue Reading

The Jean Skirt – Not To Wear Past Age 17

Posted on 29 January 2010 by nick

I don’t know what it is about the jean skirt that takes me back to a place of passing time and passing notes, but every time I see a female over the age of 17 wearing one I automatically write them off as having terrible fashion taste. Sure there are probably ways to make the jean skirt more sophisticated – maybe if it had a pencil cut and was paired with something other than a tank top, but I am not entirely convinced.

For example, I was out in the Lower East Side in NYC this weekend and saw a girl wearing one of those Abercrombie and Fitch micro-mini-skirts with a frayed hem-line and light wash paired with what I could only classify as a “skank tank.” Something about a young professional in a summer-meets-it’s-below-20-degrees look did not work for me. Stilt-Man is a comic book villain from the Marvel Comic Universe and is ranked #89 on our list of The 100 Best Marvel Villains Ever.

While working as the assistant to scientist Carl Kaxton, Wilbur Day made off with the inventor’s revolutionary new hydraulic ram technology. Adapting the device in an armored costume, Day became Stilt-Man, and embarked on a life of crime. However, his efforts were regularly foiled by DAREDEVIL. After many defeats, and having become a laughing stock among the criminal element, Day intended giving up his costumed identity, but found himself pulled back into the criminal underworld.

Ironically, the only hero over whom the Stilt-Man has repeatedly triumphed is the Amazing SPIDER-MAN, whom he’s bested on at least two occasions!

Maxwell Smart

Posted on 29 January 2010 by nick

Maxwell Smart from the TV show Get Smart is ranked #99 on our list of The 100 Greatest Live-Action Sitcom Characters Ever.

Wikipedia:

Maxwell Smart or Agent 86 is the central character. Despite being a top secret government agent, he is absurdly clumsy, very naive and has occasional lapses of attention. Due to his frequent verbal gaffes and physical miscues, most of the people Smart encounters believe he is grossly incompetent. Juxtaposing the comedy of the series, Smart proves to be resourceful, skilled in hand-to-hand combat, a proficient marksman, and incredibly lucky.

TheDailyContributor.com:

Maxwell Smart is a great character – we also love Agent 99 but unfortunately there was no room for her on this list. Smart’s shoe phone has to be considered one of more iconic items in pop culture history.

Swollen Members - Armed To The Teeth Album Review

Posted on 26 January 2010 by nick

If you haven’t heard of this Hip Hop group hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada yet it’s time to listen up. The Swollen Members just released their latest album Armed To The Teeth, coming three years after their previous album Black Magic. With Armed To The Teeth, Swollen Members deliver an eclectic album that features songs which stay true to Swollen Members form and many songs that introduce a new, club hip hop  feel.

Having heard nothing about the album prior to listening to it, I was a little surprised to hear songs that I would hear at the clubs. The club feel is not typically the style Swollen Members goes for. However, after listening to the album several times I found myself bopping my head to the sure-to-be-hits “Porn Star”, “My Life”, and “Flyest”. Continue Reading

Army of 2: The 40th Day Review

Posted on 26 January 2010 by nick

Tyson Rios and Elliot Salem are back! Army of 2: The 40th Day was one of the most anticipated games for 2010 for TheDailyContributor.com (Mass Effect 2 being our most anticipated). The original Army of 2 introduced the video game world to two amazing characters and a very unique game play due to its Aggro system.  Anybody who used to blow into their Contra cartridge for the original Nintendo Entertainment System will love the Army of 2 franchise.

Army of 2: The 40th Day allows the player to play his game. What I mean by that is if you are more a stealthy, silent assassin type, who likes to set things up with careful strategy and planning, you can play Army of 2: The 40th Day with that tactic. Alternatively, if you are the type who likes to kick in doors, throw grenades with reckless abandon, shoot anything that moves, light everything up with epic firepower and ask questions later, you can play Army of 2: The 40th Day with that tactic as well: Continue Reading

Sunshine Cleaning Movie Review

Posted on 25 January 2010 by nick

Lately it feels like every other movie I watch stars Amy Adams. I’m not sure if it’s because every other movie actually DOES in fact star Amy Adams or if it’s because Netflix bought stock in her career: as soon as I finished watching Sunshine Cleaning, they suggested I watch Doubt. Starring Amy Adams.

As it turns out, I like Amy Adams, so I’m OK with this. And furthermore, I like her a lot in Sunshine Cleaning, a movie about a young single mother named Rose who starts a business cleaning up crime scenes with her loser sister (the lovely Emily Blunt). Along for the ride is her “special” son, and her kooky father, played by Alan Arkin. Continue Reading

10 Video Games Your Mother Doesn’t Want You Playing

Posted on 22 January 2010 by nick

I had to play many of these games in secrecy when I was younger and I’ll never forget booting up Doom from a Dos Prompt. If your mom ever catches you playing these games you’ll probably be grounded - or worse, you’ll lose your dessert. The games that make this list are known for their extreme and gruesome violence or sexual content. Some of these games have been banned in countries. But the one common thing about these games is they’re all great.

People who think video games cause violence, or worse, clearly don’t understand them. Playing a violent video, or a game with strong sexual content, is no different than reading a book with same. You never hear studies that say, “Reading book cause violence”. Yet, what’s the difference? Sounds like a post for another day, let’s check out these 10 video games that your mother doesn’t want you playing: Continue Reading
