Top 5 Patrick Swayze Movies

Posted on 30 September 2009 by nick

Patrick Swayze led an eclectic acting career. So much so that movie fans of almost every genre can point to a movie and say, “Oh yeah! I love that movie, that’s definitely the best Swayze of all time.” With that said, the top 5 Patrick Swayze movies of all time as we see it are:

Honorable Mention: Donnie Darko

Writer-director Richard Kelly’s trippy, mind-bending feature debut stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a troubled Midwestern teenager plagued by incessant sleepwalking, family drama and visions of a menacing 6-foot-tall, doomsday-prophesizing rabbit. Drew Barrymore, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Mary McDonnell, Jena Malone, Patrick Swayze and Noah Wyle also star in this intriguing cult classic.

Top 5 Tom Cruise Movies Of The 1980s

Posted on 29 September 2009 by nick

Say what you will about Tom Cruise but the man nearly owned a decade. If it weren’t for some choice Arnold Schwarzenegger movies I would say Cruise owned the decade:

5) Rain Man (1988)

Fast-talking yuppie Charlie Babbitt is forced to slow down when he meets a brother he never knew he had, an autistic savant named Raymond (Dustin Hoffman, in an Oscar-winning role) who’s spent most of his life in an institution. When their wealthy father dies, leaving everything to Raymond, Charlie takes his unusually gifted older brother on a life-changing cross-country odyssey that neither is likely to forget.

Super Mario World

Posted on 29 September 2009 by lou

Super Mario World is the latest entry to our list of the Best SNES Games Ever. I’m not so sure there is a game more universally loved than Super Mario World. It is quite simply one of the most fun and enjoyable games of all time. I’m hard pressed to believe that it wont be considered the single best game for Super Nintendo when it’s all said and done.

According to Wikipedia Super Mario World ” has gone on to become a critical and commercial success, becoming the best seller for the platform, with 20 million copies sold worldwide. Like in previous games in the Mario series, the plot involves Mario and Luigi traversing different lands on a quest to rescue Princess Toadstool who has been kidnapped by Bowser.”

King Kong Movie Review

Posted on 29 September 2009 by lou

There aren’t many movies that make you laugh at a gorilla’s playful antics, root for him in a fight with dinosaurs, and weep after you fall in love with him at 3 hours, many people say it’s too long, but Kong moves along methodically, building a great emotional presence between the audience and the great ape.

Notable performances include Watts, perfect as a silver screen starlet, Jack Black, devilishly charming, and Colin Hanks, adding to his catalog of quality pics. Go see the big monkey with a big heart.

Say, That’s A Nice Bike: T-1000 Robert Patrick Enjoys USC Game

Posted on 28 September 2009 by nick

This past Saturday Robert Patrick, who famously played T-1000 in Terminator 2, was out enjoying the USC football game against Washington State. Patrick scored a pretty nice on-field view of the game with a few of his buddies. I’m glad to see Patrick made a full recovery after he fell into that vat of molten steel  about 15 years ago.

The ex-Los Angeles Laker and still fan favorite Ronny Turiaf also made an appearance at the game. Turiaf’s presence was well received - he even found time for a few autographs and an appearance on the jumbo-tron. Check out the photos here: Continue Reading

Remembering The ‘It Just Doesn’t Matter’ Speech From Meatballs

Posted on 28 September 2009 by lou

When it’s all said and done, the ‘It Just Doesn’t Matter’ speech preformed by Bill Murray in the movie Meatballs will not be remembered as one of the greatest movie speeches of all times. I’ve scoured countless lists put together by bloggers and I’ve never seen the ‘It Just Doesn’t Matter’ speech from Meatballs crack a top 50 position. Maybe the blogging community doesn’t recognize this as a great movie speech or maybe the blogging community has simply never seen this speech.

I also have a hunch that you, our reader, has never seen the ‘It Just Doesn’t Matter’ speech from Meatballs. Have you? Probably not, but you might have if you ever had that odd-ball friend who was obsessed with watching movies that nobody else watched.  That kid definitely would have seen Meatballs a few times over. Now, you movie buffs out there have most likely already snubbed Meatballs and discredited the speech at hand. Continue Reading

How To Use Quotes From Clueless At Work

Posted on 28 September 2009 by lou

You either love it or you hate… to admit that you love it. Either way, you can’t deny the pop genius of this infamous 90s teen movie staple.

Clueless spawned a decade’s worth of annoying catch-phrases (none more famous than Cher Horowitz’s snotty “WhatEVer”) accompanied by various finger contortions such as the “W” and the “L” signs. Now it’s time to see how they can be applied to the wonderful world of Corporate America. Continue Reading

Can You Play Something That Doesn’t Suck?: 25 Songs For Your Indie-Rock Playlist

Posted on 27 September 2009 by lou

Indie Rock is not capable of being accurately described due to its eclectic vastness; similar to “web 2.0″. Me and you could both love Indie Rock and each of us could probably name 10 bands that neither one of us has heard of.  The best description of Indie Rock I can come up with is: It is what it is.

Wikipedia gives defining Indie Rock a stab as “A variety of musical genres and subgenres with varying degrees of overlap are associated with indie rock. Some of these include lo-fi, post-rock, sadcore, C86, math rock, shoegaze/dream pop, indie pop, noise rock, noise pop, riot grrrl, post-hardcore, twee pop, alt-country, post-punk revival, garage rock revival, dance-punk, indie folk, baroque pop, and indietronica.” Sure Wikipedia, whatever you say. The Matador Movie Review

Posted on 27 September 2009 by lou

The Matador is an off-beat dark comedy with a friendship complex. Brosnan’s performance as a once-smooth hitman who has lost his mojo is as funny and as fearlessly absurd as anything he’s ever done; You can’t help but love him. The Matador is a superbly cast hit man/buddy flick that has both brains and heart.

Craigslist Rant Of The Day: Dear Library Woman

When one navigates the boundless regions of Craigslist, you’re bound to unearth a few gems. Whether it’s some guy in El Paso giving away free dirt or a male teenager in Duluth searching for 6 female roommates, Craigslist has it all. You want an ‘86 RV? A set of lawn chairs? Tennis lessons? Do you want to meet up during lunch? Anything you want, Craigslist has it.

One of my personal favorite sections on Craigslist is the Rants and Raves section. Here, users can vent to the Craigslist community about anything they’d like. Today we travel to Craigslist San Diego. San diego craigslist >  north SD county >  personals >  rants & raves: Continue Reading

There’s Always One Brownie Left: Corporate America Food Etiquette

Posted on 25 September 2009 by nick

In all office buildings across America there is a universal, unwritten law when it comes to eating food your co-workers bring in to share: NEVER EAT THE LAST ONE OF ANYTHING. If you are seen eating the last brownie, scone, or scraping the last bit of cheese dip left over from Betty’s Super Bowl party you will be shunned.

Typically your female employees will bring in baked goods or snacks that they baked the night before, or had left over from some function (it always seems to be a baby shower). Your male employees will only bring in baked goods or snacks if their wives or girlfriends have it ready for them. Continue Reading

Why Girls Go to the Restroom in Groups

Posted on 25 September 2009 by nick

I can’t tell you the amount of times I have been asked by my feverishly curious male friends why this phenomenon is so wide-spread and predictable. Men just can’t fathom why girls would want to conduct their business in front of an audience. Is it that we lack the independence to do even the simplest task alone?

Or is it that there is a secret girl convention in the bathroom where naked pillow fights and Jell-O wrestling goes down? I’ll pause while your mind races for a second – it’s actually neither of these. Below is a succinct list of why your girl friends are traveling in packs to the restroom: Continue Reading
